ABOUT OUR CLUB - HOW WE BEGAN
Bristol Cavy Club has been in existence since September 1964, when the first few fanciers attended the Annual General Meeting of the Knowle, Brislington and St Anne's Rabbit Club they requested that they be allowed to inaugurate a Cavy Section at the Rabbit Club for a trial period.
This was discussed at the AGM and put to a vote among the members with a favourable result. The first table show was held in February 1966 at St Mary Redcliffe Church rooms and was a very good meeting. The following monthly shows were even better with extremely good attendances, in October of the same year the first Open Pen Show was held in conjunction with the Rabbit Club at St Anne's Church Hall: This was also a great success.
In 1967 a meeting of the Cavy followers was held and it was decided that in view of the interest and enthusiasm shown by the enrolled members it would be possible to branch out on their own, the end result was the Bristol Cavy Club.
Bristol Cavy Club is now a thriving club, affiliated to the National Cavy Club holding three shows a year. All shows are Open Pen Shows, open to members and non-members of the club. They are held under rules set out by the National Cavy Club and all carry either 3 or 4 Stars in the scheme run by National Cavy Club.
The shows are held in Frenchay Village Hall, near Bristol ( previously they were held in the Parish and Community Halls in Yate Nr Bristol).
